Pune rubber cluster (Maharashtra)
Introduction
Pune hosts a large number of MSMEs, including a cluster of about 80 units manufacturing rubber components for the numerous large-scale engineering and automotive industries located in the city. The major raw material for the rubber units are natural rubber and synthetic rubbers such as nitrile rubber (NBR), styrene butadiene rubber, butyl rubber, and EPDM. In addition, compounding materials like curative, protective, and reinforcing agents are also used. Natural rubber accounts for between 25–40% of the raw material consumption. The natural latex rubber is vulcanized before being supplied to the rubber units, usually in the form of rolled sheets. Synthetic rubber is largely imported.
