Jaipur Foundries (Rajasthan)
Introduction
Jaipur, the 'Pink City', has a sizeable cluster of around 110 foundry units, comprising 80 cupola-based foundries and 30 induction furnace-based foundries. A majority of the units use green sand moulding; a few foundries employ investment casting. Most of the cupola-based foundries are over 30 years old. Although, close to 73% of furnaces are cupola-based, induction furnace-based units account for about two-thirds of total production. Major buyers of castings from the Jaipur cluster include Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Volvo, Eicher Truck & Buses, Sonalika, Escorts, and Ashok Leyland. Agriculture implements account for about 40% of total production, followed by the requirements of PHED (25%). The cluster provides employment to about 7,000 people.
