Shimoga Foundry Industries (Karnataka)
Introduction
The district of Shimoga (now renamed Shivamogga), has about 15,000 industrial units. They include a cluster of 45 foundries and associated units, which provide employment to about 5500 people. The technologies/processes include green sand moulding, investment casting, resin-bonded shell moulding and centrifugal casting. Equal quantities of steel and iron castings are produced. The buyers include Cummins, Kirloskar, KSB, BEML, Godrej, Escorts, Emerson, etc. The Shimoga foundry cluster is renowned for exporting quality castings to 26 countries in five continents.
