Bhimavaram ice-making cluster (Andhra Pradesh)

Introduction

The town of Bhimavaram, in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, is home to over 30 companies that produce shrimp/prawn through aquaculture. Bhimavaram accounts for around 70% of all shrimp exports from the state. The town also supports a cluster of around 80 ice-making MSMEs, which produce ice blocks to support the shrimp/prawn industry. The ice-making units have production capacities ranging from less than 20 tonnes per day to over 40 tonnes per day.
