Vellore rice mills cluster (Tamil Nadu)

Introduction

An important rice milling cluster is located in Vellore, covering the nearby Arcot and Arni areas as well. There are about 340 rice mills in the cluster. They process paddy to produce high quality rice. The main product is ‘Ponni’ rice, which is characterized by its relatively low moisture content (8.5–9%) compared to rice processed in other states (12–13%).
