Surendranagar ceramic cluster (Gujarat)

Introduction

Surendranagar, located in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, has a cluster of about 26 ceramic industries, the majority of them MSMEs. The primary products are electrical insulators and fuses of different kinds. A few units also manufacture tiles, sanitary ware and other ceramic products like abrasive media and grinding media. The installed capacity of the units ranges between 3–10 tonnes per day. All the kilns in the cluster are locally fabricated with lack of control and automation for material movement, or for monitoring of operational parameters such as temperature, retention time of car, and productivity. Hence, there is good potential for improving energy efficiency in both thermal and electrical areas.
