Bhiwandi textiles (Maharashtra)

Introduction

Bhiwandi, in Thane district of Maharashtra, is renowned for its power looms. The Bhiwandi cluster mainly processes grey cloth/fabric. There are about 6000 power loom units located in Bhiwandi and nearby areas, the majority of them MSMEs, operating about 1.5 million power looms. The main raw materials are grey cotton yarn and white cotton yarn. The cluster provides direct employment to about 0.5 million people and indirect employment to around the same number of people.
