International experience in financing energy efficiency in SME sector: challenges and solutions
This issue focuses on the challenges in financing of energy efficiency in the MSME sector, and solutions to overcome the challenges. It carries interviews with senior officials from Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and YES Bank, and also summarizes the key schemes and products offered by these two banks for MSME finance.
Initiative—Promoting the Manufacture of Resource Efficient Bricks: GEF–UNDP–MoEFCC Project
This issue focuses on the small-scale brick industry. It presents a profile of the Varanasi brick cluster; an initiative to demonstrate energy efficient kiln firing technology in the Varanasi brick cluster; and an initiative to promote the production and use of clay-fired resource-efficient bricks (REBs) like perforated bricks and hollow blocks.
Cluster News—Skilling foundry workers in Howrah on improved operating practices
This issue focuses on promoting energy efficiency in the Howrah foundry cluster through improved melting technologies like divided blast cupola (DBC) and improving technical skills of plant personnel in best operating practice (BOP). It carries a profile of activities under the TERI-SDC project; a case study on BOP implementation; and the gist of an awareness workshop in Kolkata in June 2016.
This issue focuses on the secondary aluminium industry. It carries a profile of the Pune aluminium castings cluster; a summary of detailed energy audits conducted in the Chennai aluminium casting cluster; and the gist of a consultation meeting held by TERI–SDC with sectorial stakeholders in Chennai.
This issue carries a profile of the foundry industry, with a profile of the Coimbatore foundry cluster and the activities under the TERI–SDC EESE project to promote energy efficiency in the Rajkot foundry cluster. It also presents an overview of the project supported by Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF), under which energy studies are being conducted in ten energy intensive MSME clusters in Haryana, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
RDD&D, Capacity Building and Long-Term Partnerships
This issue presents insights and experiences in promoting energy efficiency in the Indian MSME sector from three different perspectives: a bilateral organization (SDC), a multilateral organization (UNIDO), and a financial institution (SIDBI). This knowledge is particularly relevant ahead of the Conference of Parties (COP21), to be held in Paris at the end of 2015.
Case Study— Study to promote energy efficient pumps in india
This issue focuses on pump sets, which together consume almost a fifth of India’s total electricity production. It outlines a study conducted by TERI with the support of Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation on promoting energy efficient pumps in India. It also presents a profile of Rajkot pump set cluster, including summaries of workshops under the TERI–SDC project and the SIDBI-supported Cluster Level Intervention Program (CLIP).
A PLATFORM FOR PROMOTING ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN SMEs
This issue features a cluster profile of the Bhubaneshwar brass cluster, and summaries of a knowledge paper by TERI and YES Bank on ‘Enabling Finance for Scaling Up Energy Efficiency in MSMEs’; the 6th Annual Energy Management Action Network (EMAK) workshop organized by TERI and Institute of Energy Economics (IEE) Japan; and workshop to promote energy efficient Japanese heat pump systems organized by TERI and ECCJ.
This issue carries a profile of the Gujarat dairy cluster; a case study from Pune forging cluster on forging units that have adopted energy efficient compressed air systems under the GEF–World Bank project titled ‘Financing energy efficiency at MSMEs’ being co-implemented by SIDBI and BEE, and a workshop organized by TERI and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) on promoting Japanese low carbon technologies in India.
This issue carries a profile of the Faridabad mixed engineering cluster. It also presents a case study from the Pune forging cluster on the various energy conservation measures implemented by a forging unit in the cluster including their benefits in terms of energy and cost savings.
This issue features a profile of the Kolhapur foundry cluster; a workshop on ‘Financing Energy Efficient Technology for MSMEs – Opportunities and Challenges’ organized by Ministry of MSME and GIZ; a conference on ‘Changing Paradigms of Cluster Development: Learning from Global Experiences’ organized by Foundation for MSME Clusters (FMC) with UNIDO, CII and TCI Network; and a summary of the Thematic Session on ‘Promoting Energy Efficiency in MSMEs’ held during DSDS 2014.
This issue features a profile of the Pune forging cluster. It also presents a case study from the Punjab dairy cluster on implementing the low-carbon Electric Heat Pump (EHP) technology for improving energy efficiency in the dairy industry, under the TERI–IGES partnership project supported by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
