Ring the changes

Description
Clouds of smoke & coal ash, this was Firozabad’s air a few years ago. A city that produces 50 million bangles each day, and gives livelihood to over 150,000 people, was completely dependent on low efficiency coal furnaces. Following the Supreme Court verdict in the famous Taj Trapezium case, the Firozabad glass industry came under pressure to switch from coal to natural gas as fuel.
In 1994, SDC joined hands with TERI to develop and demonstrate a clean & energy-efficient technology for the small-scale glass industry of Firozabad. This film narrates the story of every stakeholder that helped to clear Firozabad’s air. Watch Now

Best Operating Practices in Cupola Melting

Description
This 12-minute film succinctly tries to capture the best operating practices in cupola melting. TERI with support of SDC (Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation) has demonstrated and disseminated the divided blast cupola (DBC) for small-scale foundry units in India. For efficient operation of the DBC, best operating practices must be followed. The film, which has been prepared with support of REEEP, highlights some of the best operating practices that must be followed by foundry operators and supervisors to achieve optimal results. The Brick Story

Description
We all know that summers in India are bad. But imagine living next to an oven from January- July. Imagine if your work involved feeding this oven throughout the grueling months of April to June. There will be no official leaves and the pay just about Rs 3000 a month. That's a slice from the life that a fireman leads while working on a brick kiln in north India. After agriculture, the brick industry is among the largest employer of manpower in India and in terms of energy -- the third biggest consumer of coal. In 1994, The Energy and Resources Institute, with the support of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) began an intervention in the Brick industry. A multi-layered story unfolded. The film captures some of that journey. Watch Now

National Summit on Energy Efficiency in MSMEs

July 2012, New Delhi

Description
The National Summit on Energy Efficiency in MSMEs was organized under the aegis of SAMEEEKSHA during 30—31 July 2012 in New Delhi. The two-day Summit drew more than 200 participants who represented 40 cluster-level industry associations from various MSME sub-sectors across India including brick, ceramics, chemicals, dairy, engineering, foundry, metallurgy, rice mills, tea, and textiles; 30 government departments; 16 bilateral/ multilateral agencies; 7 financial institutions; 9 academic institutions; and 20 energy consulting firms. The discussion at the Summit focused on one key question: How can we enable MSMEs to become more energy efficient? Energy efficiency improvements among industries in Bhutan

Description
This 3-minute film was produced by Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS), for their weekly television news program 'Bhutan this Week'. The film highlights the energy efficiency improvement potential among calcium carbide and ferro silicon industries in Bhutan and is based on the studies undertaken there by TERI with support from UNEP in 2016. The film emphasis that a substantial amount of energy input to the electric furnaces used in these industries is lost (wasted) through the flue gases which are emitted from the stack. The 'waste heat' in these industries can be gainfully utilised for power generation and drying of the raw materials leading to substantial energy savings and reduced emissions of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. Energy Efficient technology for Ludhiana Forging cluster

BEE’s intervention under BEE-SME program

Description
Under the BEE-SME program, BEE is intervening in five clusters for demonstration of energy efficient technologies. Ludhiana is among the clusters shortlisted for intervention. In and around Ludhiana, more than 1500 Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) forging units are operating, manufacturing products suitable for automotive, industrial and agricultural sector. One of the technologies identified to enhance energy efficiency of forging units in the cluster is replacement of conventional furnace with induction heating. The video film highlights the benefits of adopting the identified technology. Watch Now
